Orchard Park residents object to truckloads of new cars parked on residential land

Orchard Park neighbors complained Wednesday night about truckloads of new cars being stored on land-zoned residential next to Wings Flights of Hope on California Road – the same property the owner wants to be rezoned industrial.

Large trucks have delivered cars around a curve on the two-lane road from 7 a.m. to midnight, neighbors said. Joseph DeMarco of Wings owns the adjacent property and is seeking to rezone the 11-acre site at the request of the Planning Board.

DeMarco said all the new cars have been moved to the Wings property, which is zoned industrial. If rezoned, the 11 acres would be used for overflow parking, he said.

"I'm all for Wings, I've always been," Don Kaczynski of California Road said of the non-profit that provides free air transportation for medical and humanitarian purposes. "I think it's going beyond that now."

The Town Board took no action Wednesday.
