A solution has been found to a sewage disposal problem that was holding up a proposed Holiday Inn Express on Grand Island, according to town officials.
Hotelier Jayesh Patel is transforming the former Dunlop headquarters at 2761 Long Road into a Holiday Inn Express, an $8.5 million project. But Patel learned early on that the septic system for the former office building was not adequate for the planned 105-unit hotel.
Supervisor Nathan McMurray told the Town Board this week that town engineers found a pipe that runs under the I-190 that can accommodate a sewer line. The pipe is located on an adjacent 184-acre property owned by Amherst developer William Huntress. McMurray said both Huntress and the Erie County Health Department have given Patel the green light to go forward.
The work will be done at no cost to the town, said McMurray.
Huntress has not unveiled plans for his property, dubbed the "Grand Island Commerce Center."
