Boston Town Board appoints new town clerk

Boston Town Board members appointed Dawn Boncal interim town clerk Wednesday night.

She is taking over the office from Jennifer Mule, who resigned Monday, accusing Town Board members of "retaliation."

Mule refused to recognize the part-time clerks the Town Board hired for her office this year, naming two others as unpaid deputy town clerks. She also had not been in the clerk's office since the Town Board found her guilty of making renovations to her house without a building permit and fined her and her husband $35,000.

Boncal, who was the assistant to the supervisor, will serve as clerk until the end of the year, Supervisor Martin Ballowe said. Boncal's daughter, Brianna, one of those appointed by the Town Board to serve in the clerk's office Jan. 1, has been assigned to the clerk's office, he said.

Ballowe said there will be an election for town clerk in November.
