'Bears have the right of way' in Orchard Park, and so does a 'big cat'

Lions and tigers and bears? Oh my, Orchard Park.

Bears have been seen in the southern section of Orchard Park, and a "big cat" has been reported in the north, according to Orchard Park Police Chief Mark Pacholec.

"We've had bear sightings, even on porches, on the south end of town, Behm, Benning and Cole Road," he told the Town Board Wednesday night.

And he added a word of caution: "Don’t go out to move the bear along. Bears have the right of way."

He said a big cat has been reported north of there, between Knoche Farms and the town's Milestrip Road compost center. The town is trying to capture it on video.

"And by big cat, I don't mean something with (a) cute little fluffy tail. I mean something with about a two-and-a-half-foot tail," Pacholec said.  "Again. The cat has the right of way. Don't go try to play with it."
