Town officials soon will recommend to Catholic Health System some new potential sites for a substance abuse treatment clinic in Amherst, Supervisor Barry A. Weinstein said Tuesday.
Weinstein's comments come one day after Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz challenged the town to come up with a suitable location for a treatment clinic in Amherst where methadone will be distributed.
Town officials and residents have objected to Catholic Health's preferred site, 910 Millersport Highway, which borders North Ivyhurst Road.
Sisters Hospital operates a treatment clinic at 3730 Sheridan Drive, where the lease expires at the end of August. Catholic Health previously said the current facility is too small for its needs. The system on Tuesday said it was "willing to look at alternate locations in Amherst if a suitable site can be found that meets our specifications and timeline."
