Royalton man charged with having 19 pounds of pot

John P. Hicks Jr. of Royalton pleaded not guilty in State Supreme Court Monday to an indictment that accused him of having about 19 pounds of marijuana when police executed a search warrant at his home Oct. 25.

Hicks, 55, of Peet Street, faces a first-degree criminal possession of marijuana charge.

Niagara County Assistant District Attorney Peter M. Wydysh said the pot allegedly had been harvested and there were "remnants of a grow" at the home, but no marijuana plants were growing at the time of the raid.

Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. allowed Hicks to remain free on his own recognizance to await further court proceedings.
