Daughter of the late Patrick and Florence (DeVoe); sister of Patricia (late John) Scive, Elizabeth (late William) Eschborn and the late Lawrence (Ora), Francis (Betty Lee), John (Evelyn), Mabel (survived by Leroy) Wood, and Patrick (Irene); also survived by several nieces and nephews. Ruth was born, raised and proud of her Tonawanda Street roots. She graduated from Riverside High School, and worked at Dunlop Tire until her retirement. She was an outstanding catcher for the "Holling Debs" softball team who won the US Softball championship in 1951. In 1979, she was inducted in the WNY Softball Hall of Fame. Ruth was proud to be a Past National Great Pocahontas of the Degree of Pocahontas, where she was honored to place a wreath at Washington's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. After her retirement she divided her time between her Lake Suzy condo and Leisurewood, in Akron. While in Florida, she volunteered at Fawcett Memorial Hospital and was an Extraordinary Minister for San Antonio Church. During the summer she volunteered with Ann Marie Zon and the Nicaragua Mission Project, where she had the opportunity to visit. Ruth's travel abroad also included a trip to Ireland, and a visit to The Holy Land with her good friend, Sister Charlene Stonish. She would never miss a Tuesday meeting of the "Victory of Christ Prayer Group" which met at the OLV Basilica. She also enjoyed ushering at Shea's and The Kavinoky Theater. Ruth enjoyed a good game of pinochle, Mahjongg, Rumicube and "65!" For the past three years, Ruth has said she was "blessed" to make Brookdale Bassett Park her home, where she has made many friends and was a helpful resident to everyone there. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 10 at 10:00 AM in All Saints Church, 205 Esser Ave., Buffalo. Memorials may be made in Ruth's name to Hospice Buffalo, Inc. or Nicaragua Mission Project, 10100 Transit Rd., E. Amherst, NY 14051. Arrangements by JAMES E. GRACE FUNERAL HOME.
