Lavoie tops Ciminelli in Arkansas final

Francois Lavoie of Quebec City, the 2016 U.S. Open champion, threw an error-free game to defeat top qualifer Ryan Ciminelli, 224-152, and win the PBA Xtra Frame Greater Jonesboro Open at Jonesboro Bowling Center in Arkansas.

The 2016 PBA Rookie of the Year, Lavoie converted four spares and strung together four late strikes to defeated the 31-year-old left-hander from Cheektowaga. Ciminelli couldn't convert the 3-7 split in the second frame, the 3-5-6-9 in the eighth and missed a 6-pin in the ninth.

Lavoie advanced to the title match by defeating Wes Malott, 210-178, and Stuart Williams of England, 232-196. He earned $12,500 for his victory, Ciminelli collected $7,000.
