Aaliyah Whitaker, 20, of Edge Park Drive, Cheektowaga, was charged by Buffalo Police Saturday afternoon with a felony count of second-degree strangulation for allegedly choking a woman into unconsciousness after slugging her during an early morning argument in the Riverside area.

After the mother of the alleged victim filed a complaint with Cheektowaga Police, Buffalo Police took Whitaker into custody about 5:45 p.m. Saturday. She was charged with the strangulation offense plus third-degree assault and second-degree harassment.

Whitaker was accused of attacking the victim during a heated argument at the intersection of Progressive and Mayer avenues in the city's Riverside neighborhood about 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

The mother of the victim told officers her daughter needed medical treatment for eye and jaw injuries, allegedly caused by Whitaker.
