Party shoppers load up and leave without paying

Three women did some party shopping without stopping at the checkout counter on Friday, and one of the items stolen surprised even the investigating police officers.
A clerk at the Party City store on Niagara Falls Boulevard told police that three women entered the store shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, each carrying a large purse, and all the purses appeared to be largely empty. By the time they left, the purses were virtually bulging with items, police say, with none of the items paid for.
On the way out with the stolen merchandise, police say, the women snatched a couple of jumbo helium tanks used for filling balloons. The tanks were valued at $80. The value of the other stolen merchandise was not immediately known. Store employees told police the women fled in a gold-colored Ford Explorer.
