The Western New Flash yielded only four goals in their first three games of the United Women's Soccer Eastern Conference season. Saturday night, they gave up that many in just the first half of a 7-0 loss to the Long Island Rough Riders at Niagara University.
Long Island (2-0-1) got off to fast start when Madison Vasquez scored in the fifth minute. Two scores by Meghan Santoro and Francesca Venezia made it 4-0 by halftime and Kayla Saager scored all three second half goals for Long Island.
The loss dropped the Flash to 0-2-2 for the season. The Flash and the Rough Riders had played to a 1-1 draw in their first meeting on May 13 when Kaelyn Gamel's last goal salvaged a point for WNY. Saturday's win helped the Rough Riders climb into a first place tie with the New York Surf, with six points each. New England (2-1-0) dropped into third place with a 4-2 loss to New York on Saturday.
