Hazardous waste drop-off collections will be held in Orchard Park and Amherst this summer, the Erie County Department of Environment & Planning announced.
The first will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3 at the ECC South, 4041 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park.
The event in Amherst will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5 at ECC North, 6205 Main St.
County residents can drop off hazardous wastes that cannot be thrown out in the regular garbage, helping to reduce pollution and the potential contamination of groundwater. Items that can be accepted include pesticides, fertilizers, pool and household chemicals/cleaners, oil-based paints, spray cans, paint thinner, stripper and solvents, and batteries.
Not accepted at the two events are latex paint, car tires, computers and electronics, appliances, pharmaceuticals, fluorescent bulbs and commerical or industrial wastes.
Residents can avoid potential lengthy wait times if they arrive later.
