Here's a local ratings shocker that has to thrill the National Hockey League.
Pittsburgh's 4-1 victory over Nashville in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs carried by cable's NBCSN Wednesday had a higher local rating than Game 1 did on a broadcast network Monday night.
Game 2 had an 8.7 local rating compared to an 8.2 for Game 1 carried on WGRZ-TV, the local NBC affiliate. The games on broadcast normally have much higher ratings than those on cable.
To put the game 2 local rating in further perspective, game 2 of the Pittsburgh series with San Jose a year ago had a 3.4 local rating on NBCSN.
The Buffalo market almost certainly will be the No. 3 market in the country for Game 2, behind only Pittsburgh and Nashville.
