Buffalo Police Capt. Mark Makowski and Homicide Detective Sgt. Carl Lundin were among 20 officers cited for their service at an awards ceremony Thursday.
Makowski received the Distinguished Service Award for his "behind-the-scenes work" since 1997 in coordinating security at major events in the city.
Lundin accepted the Commissioner's Leadership Award for overall performance and for guiding his four-member squad in solving the recent murder of a cook and the slaying of an elderly man. Members of his squad, Detectives James Kaska, Brendan Kiefer, Patricia Wrest and Joy Jermain, were also cited for their dedication along with Capt. Ronald Jentz, homicide commander.
Officers honored with the Commissioner's Medal of Commendation were Ian L. Baker, Melissa G. Brinson, Lynn M. McGrath, Michael J. Norwood, Karl B. Schultz, Kyle T. Moriarty, Allysa M. Taborn, Joseph F. Nigro, Curtis L. Hairston, Kevin P. Kindzierski and Detective Jerry J. Guilian. Receiving Mayor Byron W. Brown's Award of Merit were Detective Phillip Tisdale and Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority Police Officer David Capretto.
The mayor's Civilian Award of Merit was given to Dymone Barnwell, Derrick Houston, Randy Parker and Luther Walker.
