Lockport man arrested on charges of child pornography possession

A Lockport man charged with possession of child pornography faces a maximum 10 years in prison if convicted on the charges, officials said.

Sterling Jones, 23, made an initial appearance Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kenneth Schroeder and was held in police custody, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Cantil, who is handling the case, said the FBI’s CyberTipLine received a report about an account on DropBox that allegedly belonged to Jones.

On April 7, a federal search warrant was executed at Jones' Grand Street apartment in Lockport, officials said.

During the search, officers seized Jones’ cellphone, officials said. Investigators discovered on Jones' phone a second DropBox account that allegedly contained about 295 videos and 11 images of child pornography, some which allegedly depicted prepubescent children, according to federal officials.

The case was investigated by the FBI.
