Mom struck by car in Batavia as she pushes 8-year-old son to safety

A car that jumped the curb on a residential street in Batavia struck a mother who managed to push her 8-year-old son away, but the vehicle killed two dogs she was walking, Batavia police said Tuesday.

A gold Ford Taurus headed east on Allen at 3 p.m. Saturday left the roadway, went over a curb and struck a woman and her dogs. The woman, identified only as a 32-year-old mother, pushed her son out of the way.

The Taurus hit a parked car and then crashed into a telephone pole. The driver fled the scene but returned later. Police said the driver is believed to be a 15-year-old who took the vehicle without the owner's permission.

Police did not provide any information about the woman's injuries or medical condition.
