Red Cross volunteers were called Monday to assist families displaced by fires in Buffalo and Kenmore.
Two adults and five children were displaced following a fire Monday morning at a home on the city's East Side, fire officials said.
Firefighters were called at 10:39 a.m. to 16 Theodore Street for a report of fire on the second floor of the two-story home. Damage was assessed at $40,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents. The cause remains under investigation.
Kenmore firefighters were called about 1:20 p.m. to 141 Wabash Avenue for a report of fire in the attic of the 2½-story home. The cause was an unattended candle left burning, said Fire Chief Peter D. Breitnauer. Damage was listed at $80,000 to the home and $20,000 to its contents.
Red Cross volunteers there were assisting five adults. Firefighters also rescued a dog from the blaze, said Breitnauer.
