O'CONNOR - Frank E., Jr. "Effie"
Of Cresskill, NJ, died May 13, 2017 at the age of 93, just five weeks after he lost Angela, his wife of 64 years. They were truly devoted to each other. Father to his "pals" Colleen (Christopher) Paige, Frank (Regina) O'Connor, Kevin (Pamela) O'Connor, Sally (Michael) Martino, Christopher O'Connor, Blair (Elizabeth) O'Connor and Kerry (Sean) Folan. "FE" will be especially missed by his 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who always loved laughing with him. He was predeceased by his sister Roseanne and is survived by his brothers Bill and Ed and his sister Renee. Frank worked for Ford Motor Company for 40 years, initially in his hometown of Buffalo, NY, and subsequently in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maine. He retired as Regional Sales Manager in New Jersey. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1943 during World War II and served as a Radio Operator until 1946. Frank graduated from Canisius College in Buffalo in 1950. An avid and accomplished golfer, he won his first club championship at Transit Valley Country Club in 1949. He went on to win 12 more club and district championships over 40 years. He was proud of his golf achievements, but always modest about his many trophies, two course records, six holes-in-one and induction into the Canisius College Sports Hall of Fame. He took real pleasure in teaching his sons, daughters, nephews and grandsons how to improve their golf swing. Frank couldn't have been happier than when he and Angela retired to Savannah, GA, and she took up the game of golf. His family and close friends will all miss his smiles, his generous nature, his loyal friendship and his witty one-liners that still make everyone laugh. There will be a Funeral Mass at 10 AM on June 5, 2017 at the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River, NJ, followed by a burial service for both Frank and Angela. In lieu of flowers, donations in FE (Effie)'s memory may be made online to the Canisius College Golf Program or mailed c/o Development Office, 2001 Main St., Buffalo, NY 14208.
