Bulldogs in the 'Burg begat the bulldog in the circle.
A metal bulldog sculpture designed by Hamburg High School art students and produced in partnership with Griffis Sculpture Park and Essex Art Center now stands outside the high school's main doors.
The bulldog, which is the school mascot, is dedicated to creative thinkers at the school, said art teacher Michael Edwards.
"Its a fun, whimsical bulldog," he said, "something that can become a part of the school identity."
Art students raised the money for the sculpture several years ago with its "Bulldogs in the 'Burg" public art project that involved the auction of up to 30 14-inch-high concrete bulldog statues. Students decorated and painted the statues.
Edwards said students plan to landscape the metal bulldog sculpture's new home and add benches and pavers, and the beginning of a mini-sculpture park.
