NCAA rowing championships have a WNY flavor

Ashley Johnson (Clarence), Elizabeth Walter (Nardin) and Tessa Yurko (Nardin) will be among the WNYers in the field when the NCAA Division I Rowing Championships are conducted Friday through Sunday in Princeton, N.J.

Elizabeth Walter (center) is making her second trip to the NCAAs with Notre Dame.

Johnson, a senior at Syracuse, is a product of the West Side Rowing Club and is back in the NCAAs for the second straight year.

Walter, a junior at Notre Dame, made the NCAAs as a freshman in 2015.

Yurko rows for Michigan, where she's a senior. She's making her third trip to the NCAAs and has been selected for the second straight year to participate in the U.S. U23 selection camp.

Walter and Yurko were teammates at Nardin and rowed in the same boat in 2013.
