The Buffalo Bisons were winless against the Gwinnett Braves last season, and they are not off to a very good start this season.
David Freitas cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to snap a 3-3 tie and the G-Braves extended their mastery over the Herd, 6-5, before 1,430 at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, Ga.
Back with a blast: Dwight Smith Jr., back from the Toronto Blue Jays, tied the game for the Bisons with a three-run homer in the fourth. Gwinnett had scored three in the first with three doubles against Bisons starter T.J. House. Smith singled home one of Buffalo’s two runs in the eighth with his third hit.
Leaving ’em stranded: It’s not that the Bisons did not have scoring chances. They left runners in scoring position in the first, second, third, fifth, seventh and eighth innings. Thirteen Buffalo batters struck out in the loss.
Up next: Right-hander Luis Santos is the scheduled starter for the Bisons against right-hander Patrick Weigel of the Braves in Wednesday's 7:05 game between the teams. The series will wrap up with a 12:05 game on Thursday before the Herd heads to Charlotte to wrap up its road games against the International League's South Division in 2017.
