Roasted red pepper and crabmeat proved to be a winning combination Sunday for Ru's Pierogi at the first Buffalo Pierogi Fest in Buffalo's Outer Harbor.
The unconventional take on the traditional Polish dumpling was voted "Most Creative Pierogi" and "Buffalo's Best Pierogi" by those who attended. The third title, "Most Traditional Pierogi," went to Keeping Traditions for its entry with a classic farmer cheese filling.
Also competing were Chrusciki Bakery, Home Cooked Buffalo, K Sisters Authentic Pierogi, The Mess Hall, Ms. Judi’s Food Truck, North Star Tavern, Potts Deli & Grille and Stella’s Old Fashioned Pierogi. The festival, which included live music, games and other activities, was organized by StepOutBuffalo.com.
