Michelle M. Roman, a teacher at Holley Central School, is running for 5th Ward alderman in this fall's City of Lockport election.
Roman, a first-time candidate, apparently will face a Democratic primary against Alderman Richard E. Abbott, who drew the party's ire after voting against Common Council resolutions that sought to restore the Fire Department's ambulance service, which was privatized in 2014.
Abbott told the city Democratic Committee that he was no longer seeking its endorsement, but the party made it clear that it wouldn't endorse him anyway.
"Lockport’s middle class is struggling and no amount of partisan political spin can change that fact," Roman said. "The key to making Lockport a better place to live is having a transparent and open government, one that encourages regular citizens to have a more vocal role in the decision making process, finds creative solutions and builds broader community coalitions."
