Miami man pleads guilty in pot shipment to Hamburg

Travis Beckley, 63, of Miami pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara Friday to trying to pick up some 145 pounds of high-grade marijuana he had shipped to Hamburg from Nevada last year.

Beckley pleaded guilty to attempted possession with intent to distribute 50 kilograms or more of marijuana. He was arrested in Hamburg Aug. 10 when he came to sign for the package containing the marijuana as soon as he admitted he was the intended recipient, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Wei Xiang.

Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy said Beckley faces a prison term of up to 20 years and a fine of up to $1 million when he is sentenced at 1 p.m. Aug. 28.

The case was put together by the Hamburg Police Department and the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
