From fire trucks to playgrounds, Hamburg Rotary Club marks 75 years of service

The first project for the Rotary Club of Hamburg was to provide the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department with its first emergency rig in 1942.

Since then, the community service club has provided funding for a lengthy list of programs, projects and initiatives, including Warm the Children, which provides winter clothing for children in need, and funding for nonprofit organizations such as the Hamburg Counseling Service and the Penn Dixie Fossil Site. Club members helped build the Hamburg Community Playground last month.

The club will mark 75 years of service with a banquet June 6 at Wanakah Country Club, and the public is invited.

Hamburg Rotary Club is one of about 260 Rotary Clubs in Western New York and southern Ontario. The club meets at 6:15 p.m. Tuesdays at J.P. Fitzgerald's on Clark Street.
