2 men get probation in deaths of two boys swept over Letchworth falls

A judge on Wednesday sentenced two men each to five years probation in the deaths of 6- and 9-year-old brothers who went over a waterfall last June at Letchworth State Park, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.

Tyler Jennings, of Farmington, and Chad Staley, of Rochester, pleaded guilty in February in Wyoming County Court to criminally negligent homicide.

Dylan Giangregorio, 9, and Preston Giangregorio, 6, of Brockport, were among a group of five children who fell into the Genesee River during a hike and went over the Lower Falls in Letchworth.

Jennings, the boys' uncle, also went over the falls, but was rescued with three girls, ages 5, 6 and 12. Staley, a family friend, had to be rescued from near the top of the falls.

Wyoming County District Attorney Donald O'Geen has previously said the entire tragedy was preventable had the two men not ignored the park's warning signs. Jennings and Staley allowed the children to wade into the fast-moving water, where they lost their footing, authorities have said.
