Letter: Trump seems to think that he’s above the law

Trump seems to think that he’s above the law

I recently enjoyed a performance of the play “The Madness of George III.” Today I am struck by life imitating art. The madness of our president has descended on our government, country and people. However, Trump’s madness is real and the humor dissipates watching this drama unfold.

Our president has shared classified information with our adversary, Russia, in our White House. He has compromised our intelligence sources, jeopardizing human lives, allies’ confidence in sharing future intelligence and our national security.

When Trump spoke at CIA headquarters in front of 117 stars representing lives sacrificed for our national security, he boasted of the size of his inauguration crowds. He has compared agents who risk their lives for our country to Nazis.

He has tweeted, “… global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.” He has said he gave up athletics because he “believed the human body was like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, which exercise only depleted.” His lying is legendary, from the lie about President Barack Obama’s birthplace on.

He believes himself above the law, and he is, if the checks and balances in our Constitution are not exercised. This is not about Democrat or Republican. He is an unstable force with a trajectory that will destabilize our country and the world if not checked.

We must demand that elected leaders do their jobs! We need an independent investigation of Trump.
