25-count indictment unsealed in high-speed Lockport crash that injured 4

Alexis W. Cruz, who fled the area after being arrested for a Dec. 3 hit-and-run crash that seriously injured four people in Lockport, was ordered held without bail Thursday after pleading not guilty to a 25-count indictment.

Cruz, 20, of Keck Road, Town of Lockport, was arrested in his native Delaware and extradited to Niagara County after failing to appear for a March 17 State Supreme Court date. Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. denied him bail Thursday.

The indictment includes multiple counts of assault and vehicular assault and also accuses Cruz of driving under the influence of cocaine and marijuana.

District Attorney Caroline A. Wojtazsek said Cruz allegedly drove at speeds up to 99 mph from a road-rage incident with a motorcyclist before rear-ending a car stopped at a red light at Akron and Davison roads. Accident reconstruction pegged Cruz' speed at 72 mph at the moment of impact.
