Fort Erie man dies after motorcycle collides with SUV

A Canadian motorcyclist died at a Buffalo-area hospital Tuesday night after a crash in Fort Erie, Ont., according to Niagara Regional Police.

A 54-year-old Fort Erie man lost control of his motorcycle at about 7:40 p.m. on the Niagara Parkway near Schweiger Road. The motorcyclist was heading south and crossed into the northbound lane, colliding with the front of an SUV that was towing a boat, police said.

Police did not release the motorcyclist's name. He was being followed by two other motorcyclists who were in his group. They were not involved in the crash, according to authorities.

The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, identified only as a 33-year-old Fort Erie man, suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment, police said.

The crash is under investigation by the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office, the Niagara Parks Police and the Niagara Regional Police's Collision Reconstruction Unit. Canadian authorities did not identify the hospital where the motorcyclist was taken.
