A 279 game shot Andy Rettig of Hamburg into first night lead with 927 total squad as qualifying play began Tuesday night in the 54th George A. Obenauer Masters Bowling Tournament at Kenmore Lanes.
Rettig owned a one-pin lead over Phil Tabbi of Buffalo, who had a 279 in his first game. Rettig and Tabbi bowled on the early squad. Former champion Brad Angelo of Lockport led the late shift with a 912. Another former Masters winner, Tony Dolan of West Seneca, was fourth with 904. Another former champion, Mike Zarcone of Tonawanda, was next with 888 bowled on the first shift.
The entire field will bowl four more qualifying games tonight to determine the 32-bowler field for the start of match play on Thursday.
