Solar farm seeks approval from the Grand Island Town Board under new solar law

The Town of Grand Island is expected to put its new solar law into action tonight with a development request for a solar farm on the the agenda. The Town Board meets at 8 p.m.

Developer Frank McCleneghen wants to split the 18-acre site into two separate parcels at 2411 Bedell Road to the south, and Industrial Drive to the north. There will be a gravel driveway going through the middle of the property for private access. The site will be fully contained by a chain link fence. The panels will be visible from the Interstate-190.

The town Planning Board approved the project on May 8.

McCleneghen, president of Active Solar Development in Albany and Grand Island Solar, told the Planning Board he will purchase the property contingent on board approval.
