Man pleads guilty in drunken motorcycle crash that killed his wife

LITTLE  VALLEY -- Michael Baker, 53, of Machias, recently pleaded guilty to first-degree vehicular manslaughter and aggravated driving while intoxicated stemming from the death of his wife in a motorcycle accident four years ago.

Baker's wife, Dianne, 43, died Aug. 11, 2013 when they were both thrown off a motorcycle on McKinstry Road in the town of Machias.

District attorney Lori Pettit Rieman said a state police investigation showed Baker lost control of the motorcycle on loose gravel. State police alleged Baker had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent, more than twice the state's legal limit, according to the prosecutor.

Baker, who was indicted two years ago, faces sentencing Aug. 7 by Cattaraugus County Judge Ronald D. Ploetz.
