Bomb threat leads to evacuation of Target store

A bomb threat about 7 p.m. Saturday caused the Cheektowaga Police Department to order the immediate evacuation of the Target store at 1750 Walden Ave., near the Walden Galleria complex, according to authorities.

A call to the store shortly before 10 p.m. confirmed the store had reopened.

Earlier, Cheektowaga Asst. Police Chief James Speyer confirmed that the store was being searched about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Fire and emergency medical services units had been sent to the scene as a precautionary measure, according to officials.

A package was removed from the store after the evacuation, according to Speyer.

A bomb squad from the Erie County Sheriff's Office and deputies worked with Cheektowaga town police Saturday night.
