Thurman Thomas will judge craft beers at inaugural New York contest

Thurman Thomas was quick to blast out word that Gov. Andrew Cuomo had tapped him to be a judge in the inaugural contest for New York’s best craft beers.

“#perfectjob,” the NFL Hall of Famer tweeted after it was announced he would join a panel in New York City on May 17. Celebrity chef Mario Batali is another one of the judges.

That was soon followed on Twitter by David Lombardo, who tracks the doings at the state Capitol for New York StateWatch.

“According to this #ESPN article, he is a recovering alcoholic. Seems like a strange choice,’’ Lombardo wrote, linking to a 2002 article about Thomas.

Thomas quickly responded to Lombardo via the social media site.

“I’m good dude. Let me be responsible for my own well being. Thanks for caring so much,” Thomas tweeted.

He ended it with an emoji depicting laughing with tears of joy.
