A Buffalo man was arrested outside Gowanda High School and charged with possessing heroin and cocaine, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office said Friday.
Dana A. Toppins, 36, of East Tupper Street, was arrested outside the school May 2 after police investigated the report of suspicious persons in a vehicle, the Sheriff's Office said. Authorities found suspicious baggies inside the pickup, as well as several hypodermic needles and packing materials. About 5 grams of heroin and 1 gram of cocaine were recovered, the Sheriff's Office said.
Toppins was a passenger in the pickup. The driver was taken into custody and released pending further investigation.
Toppins was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned in Perrysburg Town Court and remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond, the Sheriff's Office said.
