Buffalo man charged with robbing 2 tourists on Goat Island bridge

A Buffalo man pleaded not guilty in Niagara County Court Friday to a five-count indictment accusing him of robbing two Syracuse-area tourists at gunpoint on the bridge from First Street to Goat Island in Niagara Falls.

Rayquelle W. Davis, 18, of Newburg Avenue, is charged with four counts of first-degree robbery and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The two men were robbed of cash and a cellphone Oct. 29.

Assistant District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said a co-defendant pleaded guilty in Niagara Falls City Court to third-degree robbery. Anthonye M. Holmes, 18, of East Amherst Street, Buffalo, was sentenced Feb. 22 to one year in the Niagara County Jail by City Judge Mark A. Violante.

Hoffmann said Davis allegedly was armed with a sawed-off shotgun in the holdup. Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III set bail at $5,000 for Davis, who also is facing probation violation charges in Erie County.
