SBA Buffalo district salutes small business award winners

The Small Business Administration's Buffalo district, which covers a 14-county area in Buffalo and Rochester, named Laurie Widmaier, CEO of Presentation Source, as its Small Business Person of the Year.

The Presentation Source, based in Pittsford, provides audio-visual services to corporate, education, government and nonprofit programs.

The SBA on Friday will present 12 awards at an event at Salvatore's Italian Gardens, as part of National Small Business Week.

"National Small Business Week recognizes the hard work, ingenuity and complete dedication of our entrepreneurs," said SBA Buffalo district director Franklin J. Sciortino, in a statement.

The other winners are: Financial Services Champion of the Year, Brian Smith, president and CEO, Greater Lockport Development Corp.; Minority Small Business Champion of the Year, Dhannayia Johnson, SUNY Buffalo State Small Business Development Corp.; Exporter of the Year, Mahadevan Govindaswamy Muralidharan, president, General Wires; Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Sandra Azariah Cunningham, founder and CEO, Zandra; and Women Business Champion of the Year, Sherry Ann Bradford, president and chief scientific officer, AccuTheranostics.

Also: Home-based Business of the Year, Stephanie Clemons, owner, Tooties Transportation; Veteran Champion of the Year, Andrew P. Fleming, partner/attorney, Chiacchia & Fleming; Family-owned Business of the Year, James C. Travis, CEO and owner, Buffalo Wheelchair; government contracting champion of the year, Michelle Frank Wright, small business liaison officer, Harris Corp.; District Director's Small Business Week Special Recognition Award, Steve Weathers, president and CEO, Erie County Industrial Development Agency; and District Director's Small Business Week Special Award of Distinction and Achievement, Linda Pellegrino, AM Buffalo.
