Police quickly arrest Elmwood Avenue bank robbery suspect

Buffalo police arrested Sedric Smith, 55, of Lafayette Avenue, a short time after he allegedly robbed the M&T Bank branch in the 700 block of Elmwood Avenue about 11:40 a.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

Police stopped Smith in the 800 block of West Ferry Street, around the corner from the bank, minutes after the robbery. Police recovered the stolen bank funds.

Smith walked in the bank, handed a teller a note and then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

He is being held on a third-degree robbery charge.
