A former Gateway Longview employee is accused of endangering and menacing a youth in his care at one of the agency's the youth development facilities in Amherst.
Ronald Atkinson, 60, of Amherst was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, menacing and harassment after he allegedly caused the victim's arm to hyper-extend during a restraint, according to special state prosecutor Patricia E. Gunning. The victim was under the age of 17 at the time of the incident.
“We are grateful to the Gateway Longview employee who reported the incident that triggered this investigation,” Gunning said.
Atkinson, who was employed by Gateway Longview as a youth care professional, was arraigned Tuesday before Amherst Town Justice Kara Buscaglia and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to reappear in court on May 24.
