NIAGARA FALLS – Sarah M. Potwin, a veteran library administrator, has been named the new executive director of the Niagara Falls Public Library.
Potwin, director of the LaGrange Association Library near Poughkeepsie for the past four years, starts work July 1 in Niagara Falls.
She said she signed a three-year contract with a salary of $82,000 a year. Robert J. Kazeangin Jr., assistant director of the Falls library, said the directorship had been vacant since August.
"I was very impressed with the way the Niagara community values its libraries," said Potwin, who said she was looking for a larger system than LaGrange. Niagara Falls has two library locations.
Potwin is a native of Cornwall, Ont. Her resume includes nine years as a private school librarian in Bradenton, Fla., a public library director position in Winooski, Vt., and an assistant director post in Massena.
"She's quite the visionary for libraries. She's got a great reputation," Kazeangin said.
