LOCKPORT – High northeast winds Sunday combined with high water on Lake Ontario to threaten shoreline properties with flooding from Youngstown to Olcott. The National Weather Service posted a lakeshore flood warning for the western counties along the lake all afternoon and evening.
Niagara County fire dispatchers reported that flooding affected the marina and other businesses along the lake in Youngstown, as well as the Coast Guard station. In Wilson, docks and moorings were submerged.
At Olcott Harbor, high water covered the breakwater, dispatchers said, and a couple homes were flooded. Authorities also had to place additional sandbags after the water also broke through a sandbag barrier.
