Bisons drop third in a row

The Buffalo Bisons were saddled with their first three-game losing streak of the season and an unsuccessful road trip Saturday night when they dropped a sloppy 6-3 game to the Durham Bulls in Durham, N.C.

The game included four errors (three by the Bisons), two hit batters, two wild pitches, and five stolen bases (all by the Bulls, including a steal of home).

Taking liberties: Willy Adames of the Bulls scored on the front end of a double-steal to put the Bulls in front to stay, 3-2, in the fourth. They added a second run in the inning when Patrick Leonard's single to left scored Jake Bauers, who had stolen second. Adames and Bauers pulled off another double-steal, second and third this time, in the seventh inning. Adames ended up scoring on a wilk pitch by Bisons reliever Wil Browning.

Herd strikes first: Christian Lopes doubled to score Alex Monsalve, who had led off the third inning with a single, but the lead didn't last long. Durham scored twice in the bottom half when Cade Gotta reached on a fielding error by Jake Elmore at second. After Gotta was erased on a force play, Jake Hager moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error by shorstop Shane Opitz, Casey Gillaspie singled home the second run.

Bulls re-gift: The Bisons tied the game with the help of a Durham miscue. Rowdy Tellez reached on an error, moved up on a two-out walk and scored on a single by Monsalve.

Tacking on runs: The double steal by Adams and Bauers helped Durham add a run in the seventh and they added one in the eighth on a single by Gotta and double by Jake Hager.

Missed opportunities: Buffalo had the bases full in the seventh with no out but Bulls reliever Adam Kolarek came on and struck out Roemon Fields and Darrell Ceciliani before Lopes hit into a force play for the third out. The Bisons had two on and a run in with no outs in the eighth but Elmore and Opitz struck out and Mike Ohlman grounded out. The Herd went down in order in the ninth.

Up next: The Bisons will end the road trip, which stands at 2-4 now, against the Bulls at 5:05 today at Durham Bulls Park. Right-hander Luis Santos (0-1, 5.14) will start for the Herd against right-hander Brett Honeywell (1-1. 3.86). After a day off Monday, the Bisons will face Rochester Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Field.
