The Buffalo News editorial team came out on top in the Buffalo's Smartest Company Trivia competition Friday.
The event benefits Cradle Beach.
The 11th annual competition, held in Salvatore's Italian Gardens in Lancaster, was another tight contest, according to Carol Russo, chief News copy editor and captain of The News editorial team.
"We won by 10 points, so that was very close," she said.
The trivia competition pitted 21 teams from workplaces across the region who score points for correct answers to 60 multiple-choice questions.
Second place went to the Cradle Beach staff alumni, and third place to BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York.
The News' other team members were Stephen Watson, Joe Popiolkowski, Bruce Andriatch and Budd Bailey – all veteran newsroom staff. This marks the fourth first-place finish for the News editorial team in the contest, which benefits Cradle Beach.
Proceeds help support such activities as a summer learning program and a weekend program for children.
First-place finishers win a trophy and bragging rights.
