Amherst town clerk was simply following the law
The News recently highlighted Lois Reid’s self-inflicted troubles with obtaining a death certificate from the Amherst Town Clerk’s Office. Being a niece instead of direct family, she first needed to obtain an order from Erie County Surrogate’s Court so Amherst could release the certificate. Reid dawdled for nearly a year trying to avoid that necessity, then sued in Lackawanna City Court and finally followed the advice of the Amherst clerk, the Amherst attorney and her own attorney and obtained the proper order from the Surrogate’s Court. Amherst then quickly provided Reid the certificate.
Yet through this entire article, curiously published just days after Town Clerk Marjory Jaeger announced she was running for town supervisor, Reid continuously harangued Jaeger, who was doing exactly what New York State law requires. I have known Jaeger for years and have always experienced courtesy and professionalism from her and her staff, and I look forward to her as supervisor.
