An Olean man was arrested on a felony drunk driving charge after New York State troopers observed him driving recklessly.
Gary G. Lerchen, 65, was charged with felony driving while intoxicated after troopers stopped him shortly after 5 p.m. Monday on Route 16 in Machias for crossing the center line, state police said. While interviewing Lerchen, troopers said they could smell the odor of alcohol coming from him. Lerchen was administered a field sobriety test and failed, police said.
Lerchen, who recorded a .09 BAC reading, had a previous DWI conviction within the past 10 years, police said.
