The Eden man accused of killing his mother inside the home they shared in the rural community pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday in Eden Town Court.
Wayne Kozak, 48, is charged with murder in the shooting of his mother, Mary Louise Kozak, 79. The woman's body was found in her home at 8925 East Eden Road after police received a call from a concerned citizen, authorities said.
Kozak was apprehended a few hours later by Pennsylvania State Police, who found him in a motel in Erie. He was returned to Eden Wednesday.
The shooting was the first homicide in Eden in more than 30 years. Authorities said there had been no previous calls of disturbances at the Kozak home and family members said the mother and son appeared to get along well.
However, the victim's sister also said Wayne Kozak sustained a serious workplace injury about 10 years ago and had suffered from depression afterward.
