Employee of postage stamps printer admits stealing $3,760 in stamps

Irvin Bates worked for one of the only companies in the country that manufactures postage stamps.

He also stole some of the stamps while on his lunch break.

Bates, 64, a former employee of Ashton Potter in Williamsville, was sentenced Wednesday to two years of probation for his guilty plea to theft of government funds.

As part of a plea agreement, Bates admitted stealing $3,760 worth of stamps while working at Ashton Potter on two different occasions last year. He will have to repay the U.S. Postal Service.

Ashton Potter has provided postage stamp products to postal administrations across the world for more than 45 years.
