Graveside services for Edna L. Everson, former executive director of the Girl Scout Council of Buffalo and Erie County, will be held Saturday in Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Colonie.
She died Dec. 15 under hospice care in Courtyard at Mount Tabor, a retirement community in Portland, Ore. She was 92.
Born Edna Lawson in Brooklyn, she earned a bachelor’s degree in science and home economics from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J.
The mother of four, she began her work with the Girl Scouts as a volunteer leader in Virginia when her eldest daughter was a Brownie, then served for three years as president of the Piedmont Council in Danville, Va. She went on to become field director and executive director of the Hudson Valley Girl Scout Council and came to head the Girl Scout organization here in 1983.
She left in 1993 to work with Girl Scouts of America International, serving as an interim executive director in locations from New York to California. She retired in 2002.
She also served as director of Girl Scout resident camps in New York, Virginia and Maryland.
A music lover, she sang in church choirs and at work. In retirement, she volunteered to lead singing and play the organ at nursing homes and assisted living centers. She also enjoyed traveling.
She was a member of North Presbyterian Church in Williamsville.
Her husband of 65 years, Warren, an engineer and business mentor, died in 2009.
Survivors include a son, Eric; a daughter, Sally Bates; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
