Homeroom Announcements: Tuesday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Tuesday

1. Boys lacrosse - St. Joe's at Canisius, 4:30 p.m.

One of the top rivalries in Western New York is renewed when Canisius (4-2, 1-0) and St. Joe's (3-3, 2-0) get together on the lacrosse field.

The Maruaders are the defending Monsignor Martin champs after beating Canisius twice in the regular season and 10-9 in overtime in the Catholic final for their first-ever title. Joe's lost four key players to graduation but return All-Western New York middie Jack Lalley.

The Crusaders have a dozen returning starters spread across all positions and will be bolstered by the return of LeMoyne College commit Jake Lutz, a defender and team captain who missed all of last season with a knee injury.

St. Joe's goal: Topping last year's historic lacrosse season

2. Softball - Amherst at Williamsville South, 4:45 p.m.

No. 7 large school Amherst (3-2, 2-1) and No. 9 large school Williamsville South (5-2, 2-2) both look to rebound from 1-run losses yesterday. The Tigers lost a 3-2 game at Lake Shore, while the Billies lost at Williamsville East, 6-5.

There'll be two editions of The Battle of Main Street this regular season with Amherst's bump from ECIC III to ECIC II. Round two is scheduled for May 3. South won last year's lone matchup, 5-4.

3. Baseball - Williamsville East at Kenmore West, 4:30 p.m.

No. 7 Williamsville East (4-1) heads to honorable mention Kenmore West (2-2) in a nonleague matchup between large schools.

The Flames won a 5-4 game against rival Williamsville South yesterday. Ben Geiger struck out nine, scattered two hits and gave up no earned runs in five innings on the mound. Offensively, Joey Mack had a double and two RBIs while Ryan Comerford added one RBI.

The Blue Devils have wins over Lew-Port and Niagara Falls and losses against Lockport and Tonawanda. Zach LaPlante and Rich Fries are two of the key hitters to watch out for on West.

4. Girls lacrosse - Amherst at West Seneca East, 7:30 p.m.

Class C foes West Seneca East (4-1, 1-0) and Amherst (3-2, 2-1) meet under the lights on short rest after both teams played yesterday.

The Trojans lost their first game of the season to Class A power Lancaster, 15-13. Senior Grace Vogel and Laura Skrzypczyk are the top offensive threats for East.

The Tigers blew out Lew-Port, 16-1. Seniors Camryn Sullivan and Hannah Smith and sophomore Grace VanBuren are tops in points for Amherst.
