The weather took its toll on the sports schedule on Thursday. It even affected lacrosse games, which often avoids postponements of games played on artificial turf. However, St. Joe’s and Bishop Timon-St. Jude had other concerns besides water.
“We had three lightning delays,” Marauders coach Pete Hudecki said.
The lightning wasn’t too close, but no one was about to take any chances with the players holding sticks in an open area. St. Joe’s had a 4-2 lead with 1:42 left in the first quarter when the game was suspended. The game will be picked up at a future date from where it left off. Figuring out when that might be is the tough part.
“We’ve been hashing out some dates, but the schedule is already so tight,” Hudecki said. “We’ll call it TBA for now.”
The News plans to start selecting the boys and girls Prep Talk Athletes of the Week once again at the end of the week. The feature had been part of the fall and winter sports seasons, and now moves into spring.
Nominations for the weekly honor should include a brief summary of the student-athlete's accomplishments for the week, and should be sent to email@example.com by Saturday night.
